INTERNATIONAL CAT DAY

August the 8th is International Cat Day. A day to celebrate our Feline friends around the world.

WHY CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL CAT DAY?

The International Fund for Animal Welfare started International Cat day back in 2002 as a way of honouring our feline friends. Since then, many organisations have jumped on this idea and found an amazing range of ways to celebrate this special day for Cats.

WORLD CAT DAY CONNECTIVITY.

International Cat day is a reminder that our feline friends need our help and support. It is a day that highlights the needs of cats, cat organisations, cat charities and cat rescue centres all over the world.

World cat day is an opportunity for Feline friends and those looking after or caring for cats, to celebrate what they do and make the public more aware about cats in general.

It is to remind humans to take some time out with their cats and devote this day to them, make them feel they are loved and are special.

To commemorate the special bond that humans have with cats and be advocates for the safety and well-being of cats.

Protectapet offer the best Pet Healthcare plans for Cats in Europe, and with fixed premiums for life, you are not going to be surprised by any increase in renewal premiums as claims do not affect your fixed premiums for life. All other pet insurance companies will increase your premiums at renewal if you have made a claim.

CATS ARE THE MOST POPULAR PETS IN THE WORLD.

Cats are the most popular pets in the world, which is not surprising as they have been around for about 10,000 years and probably originating from Africa.

WHY CELEBRATE CATS?

Like many other pets and animals, cats have this unique friendliness about them. They are known, from hundreds of studies done by many pet companies, to be beneficial for improving human health and by reducing physical responses to stress.

If you live alone, a cat, as a companion, that doesn’t take too much looking after can be very rewarding.

But, a cat is so much more than a companion, a cat can provide much emotional support for people that may suffer from a number of anxieties, such as depression, and of course, loneliness.

IF I DON’T OWN A CAT, HOW CAN I HELP CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL CAT DAY?

Just get involved in something to do with cats, or make a domnation to one of the many charities that help with cats in your local area. God knows, they need the money and any contribution you make will be very welcome.

Adopt a cat from your local cat shelter or cat rescue centre.

If you were thinking of getting a rescue or shelter cat, now is the time to seriously go and get one. There are usually many to choose from, including kittens,  at this time of year.

Just remember that Pets, whether cats or dogs, kittens or puppies are for life and that if you do decide to adopt one, you can expect a decade of fun and happiness.

Foster a cat or kitten.

If you can’t or don’t want a cat permanently or are not sure if you could cope with one around for a long time, it may well be worth looking at fostering a cat or kitten. Many cat rescue centers offer cat fostering until they are either old enough to be given a new home or you find that you actually do want to have a cat.

This way, you get the experience of owning a cat or kitten for a short period, almost on a trial basis. If you are not happy with your decision, you can at least give the cat or kitten back and not feel too guilty.

Volunteer at your local cat shelter or cat rescue centre.

Volunteering at a local cat shelter or rescue centre can be fun, especially for kids. You can get to understand the cats, their habits, how and when to feed them, and talk to the experts that look after them. First hand advice is always helpful, and you may just end up being a cat owner and cat lover.

BY volunteering, you will meet some extraordinary people that give their time, love, money and help to Cats that are very affectionate and need lots of love from humans.

Share your experience and photos with our social media page.

add your photos and comments on our Social media page and share them with the world. Your experiences and photos will be displayed for all to see, and you could just be in for a Spot prize on World Cat Day.

MAKE A DONATION.

Making a donation could easily save a cat's life. In reality they don't have nine lives, just the one.

Protectapet are creating a list of all known cat charities, rescue centers and cat adoption centers available in Spain. (Other European countries will follow) Each will have it's own make a donation page. In the meantime you can search the internet for cat charities, cat rescue centers, and cat rehoming centers to either volunteer, try and offer some help,  make a donation, or just meet some good people.
